ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan petrol prices increased once again on October 6 following another daily adjustment. The cost of petrol went up by Rs0.88 per litre to Rs393.64, continuing the upward trend from three days prior. Conversely, high-speed diesel decreased by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This latest adjustment was made after an October 3 decision that raised both key fuels. Previously, petrol was set at Rs392.76 and high-speed diesel at Rs399.64 per litre.

On October 3, petrol saw an increase of Rs2.10 per litre from Rs390.66, while high-speed diesel gained Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division explained that this review reflected fluctuations in international fuel prices. Pricing calculations include international market rates, benchmark prices, premiums, and related costs, which remain central to Pakistan’s fuel review process. The October 3 increase served as the immediate basis for the subsequent revision on October 6.
The decision on October 6 added Rs0.88 to petrol, raising its price from Rs392.76 to Rs393.64 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel reversed its earlier increase, dropping from Rs399.64 to Rs397.76. When compared to October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, while diesel is Rs1.58 lower. The federal government continues to impose taxes and duties of Rs114 per litre on petrol, with Rs100 per litre applied to high-speed diesel.
International Market Trends Drive Daily Fuel Price Adjustments
Since July, Pakistan has implemented a daily fuel pricing system, replacing previous weekly revisions that began in March. This approach ties domestic prices directly to changes in international markets and other relevant inputs. Prior to this, fuel prices were generally reviewed at longer intervals. The current system allows for different movements in petrol and diesel prices on the same day, as seen on October 6, when petrol increased while diesel decreased.
Fuel prices remain below their peaks earlier this year. On April 3, petrol reached Rs458.41 per litre, and high-speed diesel climbed to Rs520.35. In the first week of March, petrol was close to Rs266 per litre, and diesel was around Rs281 per litre before their respective increases. As of October 6, petrol is Rs64.77 below its April high, and diesel is Rs122.59 below its peak, indicating significant declines from their maximum levels earlier this year.
Petrol Prices Rise, Diesel Prices Fall After October 3 Adjustment
Petrol, a primary fuel for private transport including small cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across Pakistan, saw its price increase on October 3. High-speed diesel, used mainly in heavy transport, power plants, and large generators, covers different sectors of the country’s energy and transportation needs. These two fuels also represent the largest petroleum revenue generators by sales volume. Recent price revisions have often caused different directional moves, with both rising on October 3 and then diverging on October 6—petrol climbing and diesel dropping.
On October 6, petrol costs Rs393.64 per litre, and high-speed diesel is priced at Rs397.76. These figures replace the previous levels of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64, respectively, from October 3. Petrol has gained Rs0.88 since that review, while diesel has fallen Rs1.88. These latest rates also continue the pattern of frequent daily changes seen throughout October, affecting motorists and commercial users during this period.
