WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 opens on Sept 22, with the skill competitions running from Sept 23 to 26 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), or NECC. Three major WorldSkills events will take place at the venue. The 48th WorldSkills Competition: The competition brings together 1,385 competitors from 68 countries and regions to compete in 64 skill competitions across six sectors. The skill competitions are spread across eight halls: 1.1H, 1.2H, 2.1H, 3H, 4.1H, 5.1H, 6.1H, and 6.2H.

Colin Hu, Vice President of Huawei’s Global Public Sector BU, stated in his opening remarks that global networks across diverse sectors face the dual challenges of extending coverage and enabling agile AI deployment. AI integration across all sectors is accelerating, which is placing higher demands on network security, coverage, real-time performance, and deterministic assurance. To meet evolving needs, network deployment must strike a balance between inclusive coverage and intelligence, building a solid intelligent WAN foundation.

Wayne Zhou, Vice President of Huawei’s ISP Computing and Network Infrastructure BU, highlighted that AI commercialization is accelerating, enabling asset-heavy players to monetize their capabilities through lightweight services. New trends are reshaping the ISP sector. Moving beyond mere pipelines, ISPs are leveraging edge nodes and their unique advantages to integrate connectivity, computing, and APIs, transitioning from selling bandwidth to delivering AI services. Meanwhile, they are building a unified, intelligent, and service-aware WAN to enhance AI readiness and drive continuous evolution.
