India and Uzbekistan expand cooperation under a new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Trade and economic cooperation played a central role during the negotiations. According to the Uzbek government, bilateral trade reached $1.3 billion in 2025, reflecting a 33% increase. Both nations have committed to increasing annual trade to $5 billion by 2030. The number of joint ventures has grown sevenfold in recent years. Currently, India and Uzbekistan are served by 14 direct flights each week, and four Indian universities operate within Uzbekistan. The leaders emphasized the need for expanded industrial and commercial links. An agreement was reached to create a mechanism at the foreign minister level to oversee the implementation of bilateral accords. Plans are also underway for a joint working group to address non-tariff barriers and investment obstacles. After completing a feasibility study for an India-Uzbekistan Preferential Trade Agreement, officials will review next steps. Priority sectors identified include energy, electrical engineering, metallurgy, critical minerals, and agriculture. Discussions also covered healthcare, pharmaceuticals, automotive manufacturing, electronics, mechanical engineering, and jewelry industries.
