Australian Creatives Push for Representation in New Federal AI Authority

    July 16, 2026

The Office of AI will oversee the rollout of these standards across federal agencies and coordinate efforts with other Australian jurisdictions. The government also plans to establish national consumer safety priorities, building upon the recently created AI Safety Institute. While opposition members have voiced concerns over increased bureaucracy and regulatory expenses, the Greens have called for stronger legal protections. The full composition of the Office’s membership, advisory framework, and formal processes for industry participation have not yet been disclosed.
