CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has announced the latest iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, showcasing significant enhancements in camera technology, performance, and battery life. These new devices are equipped with a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera that offers a variable aperture—marking a first for the iPhone. Powered by the new A20 Pro processor and featuring a revamped thermal system, both models are now available for pre-order starting September 12, with retail launches set for September 18 across over 65 countries and regions.

The upgraded camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro introduces four selectable aperture options to optimize lighting and depth of field. The main camera supports apertures of f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8, and f/4.0. Additionally, it includes 48-megapixel Ultra Wide and Telephoto lenses. New Pro controls enable users to manually adjust aperture, shutter speed, and white balance within the Camera app. When composing photos or videos, users can also access a histogram for better visual feedback.
Apple has rolled out Reference Image, a voluntary feature designed to authenticate photographs. This system captures signed sensor data when a photo is taken in Reference mode, creating a reference image that users can compare against an edited version in the Photos app. Support for image metadata and the SynthID standard is also in development, with SynthID support expected to arrive via a software update later in 2026.
Variable aperture enhances camera controls
Constructed using a 2-nanometer manufacturing process, the A20 Pro chip features a six-core CPU and a seven-core GPU. It also incorporates a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with a total of 32 cores dedicated to artificial intelligence tasks. Apple claims the GPU offers performance boosts of up to 40% compared to the A19 Pro. The new vapor chamber design expands surface area and bolsters sustained performance. The models additionally support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread via Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip.
Battery life has also been extended across the iPhone 18 Pro series. Apple indicates that eSIM-only variants of the Pro can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback, while the Pro Max can reach up to 45 hours under similar conditions. The iPhone 18 Pro can achieve a 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes with compatible wired accessories. Removing the physical SIM tray increases internal battery capacity in eSIM-only models, which will be available in several Middle Eastern markets.
Siri AI debuts with iOS 27
Pre-installed with iOS 27, the new iPhones support Siri AI through Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta testing on September 14 for supported devices configured in English, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish planned for October. The feature leverages personal context from messages, email, and photos to enhance responses, and can also interpret on-screen content. Apple Intelligence employs on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for supported cloud-based tasks.
Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, with the Pro Max beginning at $1,299. Both models are available with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Color choices include burgundy, glacier, silver, and black. In the UAE, the iPhone 18 Pro begins at AED 5,099. Preorders open on September 12, with sales starting on September 18. The devices will also be launched in another 20 countries and regions on September 25.
