On August 27, 2026, Egypt and Al Dahra Initiate a $500 Million Wheat Supply Initiative

    August 27, 2026

EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Al Dahra Agriculture Trading and Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities have launched a five-year agreement valued at up to US$500 million for wheat supplies. This arrangement transitions Egypt’s 2023 financing plan into an operational import scheme. Al Dahra will provide imported wheat to GASC, financed through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. The pact sets the framework for purchases under the current program.

The signing took place at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein on Aug. 26, 2026, with Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, who also heads GASC, present at the ceremony. Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra, also attended. Details on wheat volumes, shipment schedules, origins, or pricing formulas were not disclosed in the announcement.

The financing framework was established in August 2023 when ADEX and Egyptian authorities set up a revolving wheat import program. The initial allocation was US$100 million, with renewals each year over five years, potentially reaching US$500 million in total. The original arrangement involved Egypt’s ministries of international cooperation and finance alongside GASC. The 2026 agreement now provides the operational basis for GASC’s purchases from Al Dahra under this financing scheme.

Implementation of the 2023 financing plan begins

ADEX, the export-financing branch of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, offers financing linked to purchases from Emirati exporters. In 2023, the office stated that its Egypt facility would fund wheat and other vital commodities supplied via Al Dahra. This five-year financing structure was designed to facilitate transactions with GASC. The latest agreement preserves this framework while defining the operational terms for Al Dahra’s imported wheat deliveries.

Operating in Egypt since 2007, Al Dahra maintains agricultural activities in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating around 28,000 hectares in Egypt. Over the past three years, it supplied more than 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government. This week, Al Dahra announced that its broader agricultural platform now services over 40 markets worldwide.

Al Dahra’s Egyptian operations date back to 2007

While the August 2026 agreement pertains to imported wheat, Al Dahra also produces agricultural commodities within Egypt. In 2023, it identified itself as Egypt’s leading private-sector producer of wheat and corn, with approximately 85% of its Egyptian farm output sold locally. The new deal involves imported wheat supplied to GASC through the ADEX program, not a separate US$500 million financing initiative.

This five-year agreement enacts the financing plan announced three years prior, without establishing a new US$500 million facility. The total wheat volume covered by the agreement, the yearly shipment schedule, source breakdowns, or pricing formulas remain undisclosed. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the arrangement continues as a five-year wheat supply program valued at up to US$500 million under ADEX financing.
