    September 11, 2026

BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – On Thursday in Berlin, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The conversations centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the economic and developmental spheres, while also addressing regional and international issues, diplomacy, peace efforts, and international security. These talks took place concurrently with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s official visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

Both leaders explored opportunities to broaden the strategic partnership and deepen collaboration across numerous sectors. Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the strength and resilience of UAE-Germany relations, emphasizing ongoing progress in cooperation. He also underscored their mutual dedication to building on previous successes and fostering sustainable economic growth. The two officials exchanged perspectives on shared interests and diplomatic strategies for crisis resolution.

The state visit added new momentum to the bilateral relationship. Germany’s Federal Government regarded it as the first-ever state visit to Germany by a UAE president. During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed met Chancellor Friedrich Merz, with both leaders announcing the launch of a new Strategic Dialogue. This platform will encompass security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, technology, digitalization, transport, environment, culture, and education sectors.

Expansion of strategic dialogue enhances bilateral collaboration

Both governments endorsed initiatives to establish a German-UAE Investment Council aimed at boosting engagement between public and private sectors. They also welcomed the revival of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes of a bilateral business forum. The visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda of understanding valued at over 9.356 billion euros, as stated in the joint declaration. Additionally, a UAE investment package worth 40 billion euros in Germany was announced.

Trade relations extend further into energy, advanced technology, and digital infrastructure projects. The joint declaration detailed ongoing and upcoming work involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency initiatives. It also mentioned plans for constructing advanced data centers with a capacity of approximately one gigawatt. Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies were also identified as key areas of cooperation.

Diplomatic efforts and regional stability discussed by foreign ministers

During their Berlin meetings, the foreign ministers also examined regional and global developments. They emphasized the importance of international efforts to promote lasting peace, stability, and security, advocating for diplomatic solutions to crises, themes also highlighted during the state visit. The German government had included topics such as Middle East peace and stability among the key subjects for the leaders’ discussions.

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, participated in the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. Their dialogue integrated foreign policy, economic cooperation, and development within the broader framework of the bilateral relationship. The state visit further connected these talks with formal mechanisms for investment, strategic dialogue, and sector-specific collaborations. The Berlin meetings represent the latest chapter in the long-standing UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has been ongoing since 2004.
